Cannabis is legal in most countries whether it be for medicinal or recreational purposes. A lot of research has now suggested that cannabis may be the biggest public health success and that it can help a lot of people quit their smoking habit. 

Some people say that there is absolutely no comparison between cannabis and tobacco as the effects on your lungs from smoking weed are relatively small and are far lower than if you were to smoke tobacco. Tobacco is the top cause of preventable death in the USA. 

Cannabis also has evidence for certain health benefits such as easing chronic pain, helping with mental health problems and is also an anti-inflammatory which helps illnesses like Crohn’s Disease. Also, cannabis can be used without smoking which means you will not harm your lungs at all.

Cannabis is currently used to treat two rare forms of epilepsy and some researchers believe it could help with other treatments too, but a lot more research needs to be done to determine if the benefits are good enough for it to be legal for all uses. 


It is also extremely important to look at the addictive qualities too. Nicotine in tobacco is extremely addictive and cannabis can be addictive but as we mentioned above as it is used a lot less the likelihood of this is very slim.

Tobacco is a lot more addictive than cannabis, however mixing weed and tobacco together has a higher risk of dependency. This addiction could stem from the tobacco in the joint and the dependency will be on the joint as a whole. If you smoke pure cannabis this will reduce the likelihood of developing a dependency.
