Wall painting is one of those home decorating tasks that has the power to make or break a room. Usually, paint selection involves hours of browsing through paint catalogs, comparing sample cards, and enduring trial and error scenarios. But after layers of paint have dried, you can still end up unhappy with the result! That is why I love using house painting apps to choose the perfect color for my walls!
Go the traditional way, and chances are you won’t be fortunate enough to select the perfect shade for your home at first try. House painting apps are handy little helpers available, quite literally, at the palm of your hand. I have tried several of them, and frankly, I can’t say which one I loved more than the next! So, let’s delve into my favorite house painting apps.
#1. Project Color by The Home Depot
Project Color may just be the perfect home painting assistant. Use this nifty app to decide on the ideal color for your interior walls, furniture, floors, ceilings, and even the exterior of your house!
When you open the app and upload a photo of your room, you are presented with three options on your screen:
- See It — Tap the object you’d like to paint over to see how the color of your choice would look in your room
- Match It — Identify the perfect shade that matches the colors already present in your home
- Find It — Find the right hue among the many offered by The Home Depot; all their shades are available right there in the in-app store.
But my favorite feature of this app is that it offers a live view of the room. Using your phone camera, you can see the room from different angles and in various lighting. Tap the wall or any other part of your home decor, select a color, and see it transform before your very eyes! How much more convenient can paint choosing be!
#2. Paint My Place
Paint My Place is one of those house painting apps I turn to when I don’t want to limit myself to a single paint brand. This app gives you the option of choosing from a seemingly endless selection of paint colors from the leading brands in the world.
What you need to do is upload a photo of the area you are thinking of repainting and start playing with colors. Also, I love using this app for the exterior of my house. It is excellent for picking up the facade color as well as the shade of the roof and even the fence.
Once you are satisfied with the final look of your place, make sure to save your changes. That way, you can refer to them when you go paint shopping. You can even share your design on social media or send it privately to friends and family, and get feedback on your interior (or exterior) design skills!
The app is available for free download from both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. Therefore, you can use it on any mobile device that you own.
#3. Home Harmony
Home Harmony is a superb all-in-one design assistant. It helps you browse the paint colors, floor options, and see the changes in real-time through your camera.
There is an in-app library of countless color shades by a variety of brands at your disposal. Once you’ve picked your favorite, access the virtual reality tour of your room. The app’s Visualizer option lets you see your color selection in action.
You can select colors from the available database or use the Color Picker to find the shade quickly. There are also sample rooms in case you need some inspiration. You can ensure your color looks flawless on your walls at any time of day or night. Adjust the settings and switch from natural light to LED lighting, for instance.
After you’ve adjusted all the parameters and settled on the right color for you, you can save the project or share it. In the end, go ahead and find a painter near you right there in the app.
#4. ColorSnap Visualizer by Sherwin Williams
Sherwin Williams’ ColorSnap Visualizer allows you to instantly see any of their 1,500 colors on your wall in real-time. Simply aim your smartphone at the part of the room that you will be repainting, select your favorite shade, and see how it would look.
If you are doing a bigger project that involves many different shades for different rooms in your home, ColorSnap lets you create and save custom palettes. This feature is particularly handy for interior decorators. It allows them to save and refer to their work at a later point as well as share it with clients.
What wowed me about this app is that you can upload any photo that contains the shade you like. It can be a natural landscape, flamboyant bird plumes, or anything else you draw inspiration from, such as home accessories. Simply click on the color you are obsessed with, and the app will match it to the closest Sherwin Williams hue.
The app has many other features that are equally useful to designers and amateurs, such as:
- Rotate to locate
- Scan color number
- Day and night lighting
- Paint calculator
Download the app on your Android or iOS device, and get painting!
#5. Benjamin Moore’s Color Capture
Benjamin Moore’s Color Capture is the perfect app that translates your inspiration into the corresponding Benjamin Moore paint shade in a matter of seconds!
I cannot remember how many times I’ve walked down the street, spotted a color that I thought was out of this world only to walk away from it in despair. What chance stood I of finding it in the sea of endless color swatches available at local stores?
With the help of Color Capture, my wish became a reality! All it takes is to snap a photo and upload it to the app. It will automatically single out the closest matching color shade by this trusted brand.
Sadly, Color Capture does not offer the option of seeing your chosen shade in real-time. But it still makes the color choice incomparably easier than before.
In case you are thinking about repainting your home, give one of these fantastic house painting apps a go. Not only will finding the perfect shade be a breeze, but you can purchase the chosen color from the comfort of your armchair! Also, the whole process is a ton of fun. What more could you wish for?
